Cornhole Lights & Night Play
Cornhole Lights & Night Play
Cornhole Lights and Night Play
Keep the game going after sunset with cornhole board lights, illuminated hole rings and other night-play accessories for backyards, tailgates, camping trips, parties and evening events.
Cornhole lighting can make the board outline and scoring hole easier to see after daylight fades. Compatibility, power source, installation method, included components and outdoor-use guidance vary by product, so review the exact specifications before ordering.
Types of Cornhole Board Lights
| Lighting type | What it illuminates | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Hole lights | The 6-inch scoring hole | Players who want a clearly visible target after dark |
| Board-perimeter lights | The outer edge of the playing surface | Improving the visibility of the full board outline |
| Underside lights | The ground and area beneath the board | Decorative lighting and easier board location |
| Combined lighting kits | The hole, perimeter or underside through one system | Buyers who want broader board visibility |
Hole-Light Kits
Hole-light systems illuminate the circular opening near the raised end of the board. Depending on the design, the light may attach beneath the playing surface or mount around the hole.
Before purchasing, confirm:
- Compatible hole diameter
- Board thickness
- Mounting method
- Required clearance beneath the board
- Whether installation hardware is included
- Whether drilling or permanent modification is required
- Whether one or two lights are included
A regulation cornhole hole is generally 6 inches in diameter, but the light kit must still match the exact board construction and mounting space.
Board-Perimeter Lights
Perimeter-light systems trace the outside edge of the board, helping players see the full playing surface after sunset.
Review:
- Whether the kit fits 2-foot-by-4-foot or 2-foot-by-3-foot boards
- Whether the light mounts above, below or around the frame
- Whether the system interferes with folding legs
- Whether adhesive, clips or screws are used
- Whether the kit contains enough lighting for one board or two
A light made for a recreational board may not fit a full-size regulation board.
Battery-Powered and Rechargeable Lights
Battery-powered and rechargeable systems can be convenient where a nearby electrical outlet is unavailable.
Compare:
- Battery type
- Whether batteries are included
- Estimated operating time
- Charging method
- Replacement-battery availability
- Location of the battery compartment
- Manufacturer storage instructions
Remove or protect batteries according to the manufacturer’s guidance when the equipment will be stored for an extended period.
Plug-In Cornhole Lights
Plug-in lighting may provide extended operation for permanent or semi-permanent backyard and event setups. It also requires appropriate access to electrical power and careful cord placement.
Use only extension cords identified for the intended indoor or outdoor environment. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s extension-cord safety guidance explains that damaged or unsuitable cords can create shock and fire hazards.
Keep cords:
- Away from the pitching lanes
- Outside normal walking paths
- Protected from pinching and sharp board edges
- Clear of standing water
- Connected according to the light and cord manufacturers’ instructions
Do not run an extension cord where players or spectators are likely to trip over it.
How to Choose Cornhole Board Lights
Confirm the board size
Determine whether the lights fit:
- Regulation 2-foot-by-4-foot boards
- Recreational 2-foot-by-3-foot boards
- Mini or travel boards
- A manufacturer-specific frame
Players using full-size equipment can compare regulation cornhole boards before choosing compatible lighting.
Check how many boards the kit covers
Some products illuminate one board, while others include components for a pair. Product titles and descriptions should state this clearly.
Review installation requirements
Before ordering, determine whether the product uses:
- Adhesive strips
- Clips
- Magnets
- Screws
- Existing board hardware
- A removable mounting frame
Permanent installation can affect the board finish, frame or warranty. Review the board and light manufacturers’ instructions before drilling or adding hardware.
Confirm the power source
Choose between replaceable batteries, rechargeable power or plug-in operation based on where and how often the lights will be used.
Check outdoor-use claims
Weather-resistant, water-resistant and waterproof are different claims. Use only the exact level of protection stated by the manufacturer.
Do not leave lights, batteries or electrical connections outdoors permanently unless the manufacturer specifically permits that use.
Consider brightness and visibility
The lights should make the boards easier to locate without shining directly into players’ eyes or creating distracting flashing effects.
For larger gatherings, use additional area lighting around walkways and spectator areas. Board lights are intended to illuminate the game equipment—not the entire venue.
Night-Play Safety
- Keep walkways and pitching areas visible.
- Position cords and battery packs away from foot traffic.
- Do not use damaged electrical components.
- Keep plug-in connections away from water.
- Follow all manufacturer installation instructions.
- Do not allow lighting hardware to protrude into the playing surface.
- Confirm that the light does not obstruct the hole.
- Store equipment indoors when required by the manufacturer.
